A 31-year-old man arrested with the 2008 shooting death of Michael Gordon has been denied bond on a charge of capital murder.
The trial for Charlton Colom of Columbus has been set for May 18 in Lowndes County Circuit Court. Judge Jim Kitchens has ordered a mental evaluation which could delay that trial.
Prosecutors said this week that they will seek the death penalty.
Colom is charged with the Dec. 8 robbery and shooting death of Gordon at Gordon’s mobile home. Prosecutors said Colom entered the trailer, demanded money, shot Gordon in the chest and rifled through his pockets while holding a gun on two witnesses.
