Three break-ins at Dub Herring automobile dealerships in Picayune appear to be done by a person or persons who are familiar with the business, inside and out.

No suspects have been established at this time, but investigators are working to gather evidence that would enable them to make an arrest.

Deputy Chief David Ervin said the first reported incident took place sometime between the close of business Jan. 30 and the open of business on Feb. 2. Money was taken from a safe in an office of the building. Investigation into the matter showed no visible signs of forced entry, leading investigators to believe that the suspect or suspects were familiar with the building.

Another break-in to the same building took place between the close of business Feb. 5, and the open of business Feb. 6, where the suspect or suspects again attempted to gain entry to the same safe. This time the key to the safe had been removed from the desk it had been in during the first break-in, so the suspects were unable to gain entry to the safe, Ervin said.

This time a window was found open so investigators suspect the open window was the point of entry in the second attempt, Ervin said.

Finger prints were taken from the desk and the window, but no other evidence was found. Nothing was taken during that break-in, Ervin said.

The third break-in of the building took place on Feb. 9, where someone gained entry to the accounting office. The small safe in that office was forced open and money was taken. An unlocked sliding glass door appeared to have been the point of entry in that third incident, Ervin said.

Investigators have been working to establish a suspect or suspects in the incidents. Ervin said it appears all three of the incidents are related.
