Circuit clerks across the state say more Mississippians appear to be voting in this year’s presidential election than in 2004.

Residents can vote absentee based on their age, health or work demands or affiliation with the military. Residents can also vote absentee if they’re going to be outside their county on Election Day.

The circuit clerk in Desoto County says they are helping about 75 voters per day.

In Hinds County, where officials are still processing thousands of newly registered voters, 2,598 people have voted absentee.

In Rankin County, 2,000 residents have requested absentee ballots. Of those, 1,350 have voted in person.

Harrison County Circuit Clerk Gayle Parker says 3,000 people have voted absentee.
