The government has approved $1 million to rebuild the Hancock County emergency operations center, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
County officials have been using a former school as a temporary EOC.
The money came from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The funding was announced Wednesday by U.S. Senator Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker, both Mississippi Republicans.
Wicker says the funds will help the county move emergency operations to a larger and safer location.
