Three fireworks displays will be available for public viewing today.
Two of those displays will be open to the public while the third will be a private event for Hide-A-Way Lake residents.
A Picayune fireworks show that will be open to the public will be held at Keith’s Fireworks for the second year. Keith Marshall, owner of Keith’s Fireworks, said that the event will begin about 7 p.m. Keith’s Fireworks is located on Mississippi 43 North just west of the bridge that crosses the railroad tracks under Mississippi 43 North.
A country rock band will take the stage at 7 p.m. and play until 9 p.m. Fireworks will begin to be shot off at about 9 p.m.
“It’s basically the same thing McNeill Fire Department does but we figured we would do something closer to Picayune,” Marshall said.
Marshall expects the show to last about 30 minutes and use about $2,000 worth of fireworks. Alcohol will not be permitted at the event, Marshall said.
McNeill Fire Department is putting on their 32nd annual celebration where a full 45 minutes of fireworks is scheduled, Fire Chief Melvin Glidewell said.
The day-long celebration at the fire department begins at 9 a.m. Friday, and features a number of events, including an emergency service parade. Children ages 1 to 12 will be able to participate in the bike parade. Decorated bikes will line up at the McNeill walking track and attempt to win various prizes.
Music events will take place all day long featuring gospel and blue grass acts.
Cotton candy, popcorn, funnel cakes, ice cream and snow cones will be available for purchase at booths.
Arts and crafts vendors will be allowed to set up booths at the event free of charge. Glidewell said the event will not allow food stands since the fire department will be cooking food for sale. Lunch plates will be available for purchase for $4.50 a plate. Cold drinks will be on sale for $.75.
The HAWL private party at the gated community for residents and their invited guests will start with a barbecue lunch. The lunch will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Waters Edge restaurant in the Hide-A-Way Lake clubhouse.
The annual Fourth of July Boat Parade is set to kick off in the 200-acre lake in the middle of the subdivision.
