Mississippi State University has hired Lane Burroughs as assistant baseball coach pending approval of the state College Board.

Head coach John Cohen made the announcement Tuesday.

Burroughs is a native of Meridian and joins Mississippi State after working as an assistant coach in the past for Kansas State and Southern Mississippi.

Cohen said Lane is one of college baseball’s top hitting coaches and recruiters.

Lane was the recruiting coordinator at Southern Miss during nine NCAA tournament appearances for the university.
