A fire Wednesday morning took the life of a Nicholson resident.

Foul play is not suspected to be involved in the fire but the incident is still under investigation by state and county fire marshals and the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department.

Chief Investigator Shane Tucker said the call concerning the fire came in just before 3 a.m. Wednesday. An initial investigation of the trailer home indicated no evidence of arson.

The sole resident of the home, Eugene Thiebaud, 64, of 112 Oleander Dr., Nicholson, died as a result of the fire. Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said the autopsy conducted Wednesday indicates Thiebaud’s cause of death to be smoke inhalation.

Autopsy results initially indicate foul play was not involved, Tucker said. An investigation into the incident is still underway.

“We just need to see what we are dealing with right now,” Tucker said.

Tucker said fire marshal investigation results are also pending.
