A young mother of two died in a Sunday morning accident from blunt force trauma to the head and chest.
The accident took place at about 7:50 a.m. Sunday as Kara Lynn Cuevas, 20, with a Picayune address, was driving on the 1400 block of Bidalia Road, said Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove.
When emergency personnel arrived, they found a single vehicle wrapped around an oak tree so that access to the driver was difficult.
Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be involved in the accident. However, when there is a death involved in an accident, toxicology tests are taken.
The lack of skid marks at the scene indicate that Cuevas did not attempt to stop during the accident, leading investigators to suspect speed was a factor in the accident, Hargrove said.
Cuevas’ car left the road and she lost control of the Chrysler Sebring she was driving. The vehicle flipped twice before hitting the oak tree with the roof of the vehicle.
Hargrove said he understands it was not the first time Cuevas had traveled that road. He said it was not dark and it had not been raining that morning.
Cuevas was the mother of two sons and leaves behind a number of family members.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today, at the Riemann Family Funeral Home in Pass Christian. Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday with interment in Standard Sandhill Cemetery.
