Four Picayune players named all-state

Picayune was ranked among the top teams in Class 4A in the state all season, and the All-State team released this week reflects how good of a season the Maroon Tide had.
Picayune placed four players on the Class 4A All-State team, second only to Clarksdale which had five players selected to the elite squad.
Wayne County, which beat Picayune in the South State semifinals and eventually went on to edge Clarksdale for the Class 4A state title, had three players named to the first team incluing offensive player of the year quarterback Drexler Johnson
On offense, Picayune was represented by running back Albert Richard and tackle James Brady.
Richard ran for over 2,000 yards and more than 30 touchdowns, and Brady, a Southern Mississippi comitment, and the offensive line was a major reason why he posted such big numbers.
Defensively, Picayune placed linebacker Levi Slaydon and cornerback Drew Cole on the team.
Poplarville’s Joel Bilbo was named to the second team as a safety.
Picayune went 11-1 this season and Poplarville finished 8-4 on the year.
