The search for an Alabama man who led authorities in two states on a high speed chase ended Thursday with his arrest in Jones County.
John McClure surrendered to authorities just before 2 p.m. after calling deputies on his cell phone and giving them his location. McClure was being held in the Jones County jail.
McClure and an unidentified female companion abandoned their red 2002 Corvette about 5 a.m. on U.S. Highway 84 east of Laurel, then fled into the woods.
The woman was caught about 10 a.m., said Sheriff Larry Dykes, and was being held in the Jones County jail.
Dykes said his office got a call from the Mobile County authorities who were chasing McClure into Mississippi.
Alabama authorities said a Mobile County deputy stopped McClure near Theodore, Ala., about 3 a.m. The suspect fled, brushing the car against the deputy, and headed north on Interstate 65 and then into Mississippi.FAYETTE
