The Picayune Item is pleased to announce that a new, user-friendly community calendar is available at www.picayuneitem.com. Now anyone can search for or submit upcoming local events, at no cost. It’s just one more way to get your events in the public eye on a nationally searchable database.

Community events, concerts, festivals, fairs, fundraisers, theatre and church socials can all be added to or searched with just few clicks of a mouse and a few pecks on the keyboard through the Eviesays calendar conveniently located on the Item’s homepage.

Item readers can go online and browse events in the community by either clicking on a particular day or browsing by categories, such as community, business, theatre, religion and wellness, etcetera.

Special features allow users to save events in a personal datebook, e-mail events to friends, have access to maps and directions to venues and of course, add their own events.

To submit an event, the user will need to sign up and create and user name and password. After completing this one time only step, users are then free to add their event.

Just click on “add event” and fill in the required fields highlighted in red. Be sure to have the venue’s physical address handy, it is required if the venue has not already been added from a previous event. Adding the venue will take just a couple of additional seconds but without it, the event cannot be added.

Remember to allow for up to 48 hours for the event to appear on the calendar. All events must be approved by the local site administrator before they will be included on the public site.

Entering and searching for events is simple, but if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ginger Schmidt, Item Lifestyles editor via e-mail, gingerschmidt@bellsouth.net.
