Applications for the 12th Annual Police Summer Camp will be available at the police department on April 14, beginning at 8 a.m., said Captain Theresa Milar of the Picayune Police Department.
‘’There will be two camps that will be divided by age groups,” Milar said.
“The first camp will be for children ages 7 through 9 and will be held on June 9 through 13. The second camp will be for children ages 10 through 12. This will be held from June 23 through 27.”
Camps will be held from Monday through Friday. Campers are to be dropped off at 9 a.m. and picked up at 4 p.m, except on Friday, when campers are to be picked up at 1:30 p.m.
Milar said that all applications should include proof of health insurance and that both camps have a limit of 50 campers.
“This is a great opportunity for our department to get to know children from our community each summer and they get a chance to know us as well,” Milar said. “We provide a safe, structured environment and include education on personal safety, as well as crafts and field trips.”
Campers can look forward to planting trees at Friendship Park, a field trip to a dairy, bowling, rock climbing and an etiquette class.
There is no fee because the camp is sponsored by businesses, organizations and the Picayune Police Department. Acceptance is based on a first come, first serve basis for those who return completed applications with proof of insurance.
