Picayune Police responded to a report of a possible drunk driver on March 1, which resulted in arrests for possession of beer, marijuana and other traffic violations said Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief.

On March 1, at 1:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a drunk driver heading north on Interstate 59, Magri said.

Upon arrival, they observed a vehicle matching the description.  As they drove behind the vehicle officers observed the tag to be expired. At that time, the officers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 59, at mile marker 9, Magri said.

As the officers approached the vehicle they observed two open beer cans in the center console, Magri said. The driver was identified as Michael Wayne Williams, 27, of 202 High Heel Dr., Vicksburg, and the passenger was identified as Rickey Ross, 26, of 1445 Sherman Ave., also of Vicksburg, Magri said.

The officers observed both subjects to be extremely nervous, and when Williams was asked for his driver’s license and proof of insurance, he was unable to provide proof of insurance, Magri said.

The officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked Williams to exit, at which time they observed him tuck something in the front of his pants, Magri said.

“At this time the officer conducted a pat down, and found a clear, plastic baggy containing a green, leafy substance in the front of Williams’ pants,” Magri said.

“As a result, Williams was arrested for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, open beer, expired tag and no proof of insurance. Ross was asked to exit the vehicle and was arrested for possession of open beer.”

Both suspects were then transported to the Criminal Justice Center, but while en route, officers observed Ross to be moving around in his seat, as if he was trying to hide something, Magri said.

Upon arrival at the Criminal Justice Center the officers recovered a clear, plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana between the cushions of the back seat so Ross was additionally charged with possession of marijuana. Both subjects were then booked and incarcerated for said charges, Magri said.
