Picayune Police Department’s response to a disturbance call at a local convenience store ended in an suspected possession of heroin and other charges, said Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief.

On Feb. 9, at 2:07 a.m. officers were dispatched to a local convenience store for a reported disturbance. Upon their arrival the officers spoke with a clerk who stated a female, later identified as 24-year-old Emily Eason of 172 Roseberry Rd. in Lumberton, had been involved in a verbal altercation and afterwards locked herself inside the handicap bathroom at the rear of the store, Magri said.

Eason did not respond to officers’ repeated knocking on the locked door, even after they identified themselves as law enforcement, Magri said.

Officers obtained a key to enter the restroom and upon entry, they observed Emily standing in the corner of the bathroom standing over a trashcan where they observed her drop a syringe into the receptacle, Magri said.

Upon making contact with Emily, officers observed her holding a prescription pill bottle in her hand, Magri said.

Officers located a clear plastic baggy containing a brown powder substance believed to be heroin, Magri said.

“Officers also stated Eason was very inebriated,” Magri said. “At this time she was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and public drunk.”
