Reigning national champs sweep PRCC

EUNICE, La. — Reigning national and Region 23 champion LSU-Eunice swept the Pearl River Lady Wildcats here Tuesday with 10-1 (five innings) and 7-2 victories.
LSU-E improved to 12-0 overall, while PRCC dropped to 2-4.
In the first game, the host Lady Bengals went up 2-0 in the bottom of the first and added two more in the third before a six-run barrage in the fifth ended the game via the eight-run rule. Pearl River scored its only run in the top of the third off an RBI single by Allie Flint of Madison Central High.
Destin Vicknair (4-0) got the win in going the five-inning distance, giving up four hits and striking out two, while Rachel Hickman of Poplarville High (1-1) got the loss. She also went the distance, giving up 10 hits, striking out one, and walking a batter.
Flint had two base hits to lead the Lady Wildcats’ four-hit effort, while Kaci Lantrip of Terry High and Brooke Roberts out of Saint Amant High in Gonzales, La., both singled.
Taylor Boulet paced LSU-E’s 10-hit attack with a double and two singles (two RBIs).
In the second game, things were scoreless for the first two-and-a-half frames before the Lady Bengals put up two in the bottom of the third, added four more in the fifth, and a solo run in the sixth. Pearl River scored its two runs in the top of the seventh.
Starter Cole (4-0) got the win in five innings on the mound, giving up two hits, striking out nine, and walking four, while Elizabeth Delafield pitched the sixth and seventh, giving up two hits.
Ashley Hawkins of Theodore (Ala.) High (0-1) got the loss in going the distance, giving up 11 hits, striking out one, and walking two.
Heather Boutwell of Oak Grove High led the Lady Wildcats with three singles (one RBI), while Courtney Warr of Theodore (Ala.) High had a base hit.
Ginny Daggett led LSU-E’s 11-hit effort with a triple and a single.
The River returned to action Thursday when the Lady Wildcats traveled to Alabama Southern in Monroeville, Ala., for a doubleheader before traveling to Faulkner State (Ala.) in Bay Minette, Ala., Tuesday for a 2 p.m. twin bill.
