The Picayune Police Department responded to a possible shooting call that resulted in the arrest of a local man for aggravated assault and domestic violence, said Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief.

On Feb. 6, at 6:31 p.m., officers were dispatched to 705 N. Jackson in reference to a possible shooting, and upon arrival they spoke with the victim who stated his brother identified as 31-year-old William Davis, who was residing at that residence, had pointed a gun at him, Magri said.

The victim stated that while in his bedroom, his brother knocked on his door and when he opened the door, William tried to enter his room and that is when he noticed the gun in his hand, Magri said.

At this time Davis fired the gun and a struggle ensued, Magri said.

“During the struggle, the victim was able to escape from the residence and go next door to phone the police,” Magri said. Upon police arrival the suspect had fled the scene and a search was conducted, Magri said. Officers located Davis on Jackson and Palm, where he was taken into custody without incident for aggravated assault and domestic violence, Magri said.

“Officers were able to locate the weapon a few houses down from the original location,” Magri said. “The suspect was then transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated on said charges.”
