Kellie Woodard, 31, residing at 43 Alan Rd. in Picayune has been identified as the pedestrian involved in an accident on Interstate 59 North on Monday afternoon.
The Picayune Police Department responded to an accident involving a pedestrian on I- 59 North on Monday afternoon, said Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief.
“On Feb. 10 at 2:41 p.m., we were dispatched to I- 59 northbound mile marker 7 in reference to a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle,” Magri said. “Upon arrival, officers observed the pedestrian to have severe injuries and an ambulance was dispatched to the scene. Upon the ambulance’s arrival, the pedestrian was transported to Highland Community Hospital for treatment of injuries.”
Through investigation and witness statements it appears that Woodard walked from the median into a lane of traffic, at which time, she was struck by the vehicle, Magri said.
Am ambulance arrived and transported her to Highland Community Hospital, from where she was transferred to Forrest General.
She was pronounced dead at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg at 4:48 p.m.
An autopsy revealed that she died from cardio pulmonary arrest due to major blood loss. There were multiple fractures and bruising, Magri said.
Contributing factors to her death were multiple bone fractures and blunt force trauma.
