The City of Picayune has declared a local state of emergency due to severe winter weather conditions that began on Jan. 20, 2025.
According to an official proclamation signed by Mayor Jim Luke and city council members, the declaration was made in response to conditions posing “extreme peril to the safety of persons and property.”
The proclamation authorizes emergency measures to protect residents and property within the affected jurisdiction. It will remain in effect and undergo review every 30 days until local officials determine it is no longer necessary.
City agencies and departments have been directed to provide all necessary assistance and carry out emergency response duties as outlined in the City of Picayune Emergency Operations Plan.
Residents are urged to stay informed about weather conditions and follow city officials’ official updates on safety measures and emergency services.
