Naval Special Warfare/Operations conducted parachute training at the Picayune Airport last week. The training was led by Special Boat Team 22, under the direction of Shane Hollar, the Air Operation Program Manager. Hollar, who has been parachuting for nearly 45 years and has served as a jumpmaster since 1985, supervised the exercises.
The training involved jumping from an altitude of 12,500 feet, with participants completing approximately three sets of jumps each day. Each set involved 5-8 personnel. Hollar stated that the primary objectives of the training were to ensure that all team members met their required annual jump quotas and to train future jumpmasters.
Hollar also mentioned that these exercises were previously conducted at Stennis Space Center, but due to delays caused by high traffic in the area, the training was moved to Picayune Airport to improve efficiency.
