The Poplarville Police Department and the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office hosted their annual Night Out on the Town Green, allowing community members to engage with local law enforcement.
The Poplarville Police Department, with Chief Chad Dorn present, showcased multiple officers and a patrol car for attendees to explore. Chief Dorn emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “It’s important to do events like this to get the community involved with us and us with them because it takes us working together to make neighborhoods and this city safe.”
Chief Dorn also discussed the Poplarville Police’s relationship with the Sheriff’s Department and other local agencies. “We are fortunate to have them in our backyard and have a good working relationship with them,” he said. “But we also have the drug court as well as MDOC, as well as the Poplarville School District Police and the PRCC Campus Police. In such a small area, we all lean on each other.”
The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office set up a booth displaying equipment, including unloaded firearms, gear, and tools. They also distributed goodie bags with educational material about drugs and safety.
Sheriff David Allison noted the event’s role in community engagement: “It gives us a chance to be out and allow the public to come by and visit with us and mingle with us. It’s also good for people to put faces to names.”
Representative Jansen Owen attended the event and commented on the role of law enforcement in the community. “The community is grateful for the work our law enforcement officers do, and it’s important for the community to come out and thank them and recognize them for what they do,” Owen said.
