The Pearl River County Board of Supervisors convened on June 3, addressing a variety of matters including scholarship awards, new appointments, and departmental updates. All members were present except for Donald Hart.
The board recognized Laura C. Lumpkin as the recipient of the 2024 Mississippi Association of Supervisors County Scholarship Program. Although Pearl River County is eligible for two scholarships annually, Lumpkin was the sole applicant this year.
Malcolm Perry of District 2 announced the appointment of Jamie Gardner as the new Election Commissioner for District 2. Gardner replaces Rebecca Batzli, who moved out of the district. Gardner will serve until a special election is scheduled.
The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department received approval to submit a grant application to the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation. Sheriff David Allison stated that if awarded, the grant will fund a new polygraph machine and certification for an additional polygraph examiner, increasing the department’s certified examiners to two. The department uses polygraphs for new hires and select investigations.
