POPULARVILLE, MS — The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department is actively participating in the annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Christmas/New Year’s Blitz Campaign from December 15th, to January 1st. The initiative aims to enhance road safety during the holiday season and prevent impaired driving.
During this period, Sheriff David Allison announced that the department’s deputies would engage in additional enforcement activities, including safety checkpoints and proactive community patrols. The heightened efforts underscore the PRCSO’s commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens throughout the holiday season.
Sheriff Allison emphasized the department’s longstanding participation in the campaign, noting, “We have participated in this program annually for several years. While we are fortunate to have relatively low incidents of drinking and driving, we remain vigilant to address any potential risks. It is crucial to spread awareness that the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Poplarville Police, Picayune Police, and the Sheriff’s Department will be actively enforcing drinking laws during this time.”
The Sheriff urged residents to have fun and enjoy the holiday season responsibly. “We want people to have a safe and happy holiday season,” he stated. The collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department, aim to create a safer environment on the roads and reduce the incidence of impaired driving.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign serves as a timely reminder for individuals to make responsible choices during holiday celebrations. Sheriff Allison highlighted the importance of preventing drinking and driving to ensure the well-being of the community.
As part of the campaign, citizens can expect increased law enforcement presence on roadways, with a focus on deterring and apprehending impaired drivers. The PRCSO encourages everyone to plan ahead, use designated drivers, or utilize alternative transportation options to promote safety and avoid unnecessary risks during the holiday festivities.
The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department encourages the community to stay informed about the campaign and join the collective effort to make this holiday season both joyous and secure for all.
