Memorial Services for James Steward Hinton, 46,  of Picayune,  MS  will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethlehem Baptist Church.  The Pastor, Rev. Louis Thomas, Sr. will officiate at the service.

James Hinton was born on October 8, 1973 in Picayune, MS to Cora Mae Hamilton- Hinton and the late Otis L Hinton.  He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Rev. E. L. Fox. At Pleasant Valley, he sang in the Jr. Choir.  Later in life he attended/fellowshipped with Bethlehem Baptist Church, where Pastor Louis Thomas, Sr. was his spiritual advisor.   

James attended Picayune Memorial High School, where he was a graduate of the Class of 1992.  After high school James attended University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg where he achieved a Bachelor’s of Art Degree in Social Work.  Later in life he attended Pearl River Community College, where he achieved his Certification in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, and also Physical Therapy.

James previously worked as a social worker for the Department of Human Services in Harrison County for many years. In proceeding years, James worked various jobs such as property manager, and construction worker. James was a loving, caring person; he enjoyed singing, cooking, and playing card games such as spades. He also enjoyed being a mentor for the youth in the family, neighborhood, and community.

James ended his earthly life and started his heavenly journey on December 13, 2019 in New Orleans, LA.  He is preceded in death by his father, Otis L Hinton; and one sister, Arline Hinton.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories his loving and devoted mother, Cora Mae Hinton; ten siblings, Willie Mae Bender, of Picayune, Otis Ray Hinton of Diamondhead,  Ruth Hinton of Gulfport, Ronald Hinton, of Picayune, Andre’ (Jessatina) Hinton, of Picayune, Gerald Hinton, of Picayune, Inez Hinton, of Picayune, Corrie Hinton, of New Orleans, LA, Cora “Kesha” Hinton, of New Orleans,  LA,  and LaChundra Hinton, of Picayune; six aunts, Essie Lee Jackson, of Hattiesburg, Louise Hinton-Jones, Brenda Hinton, Mamie Hinton, Leona Hinton, and Betty Hinton; three uncles, Sam Hinton, Willie Hinton, and Michael Hinton; three sisters-in-law, Lenora Hinton, Demetrie Hinton, and Ravenwing Hughes; three very special nieces and nephews, Valerie (Mervin) Bender-McDowell, Shawna Hinton, and Jonathan Bender; one God-son, Stephon Lee;  and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Interment will be in New Palestine Cemetery. Entrusted to Brown’s Funeral Home.
