Civic Women’s Club looking for artists

The Civic Woman’s Club of Picayune is searching for artisans and designers for its first Art and Design Marketplace set for September.
“This is just such a rich community of artists that people in our community don’t realize the talent that we have,” said Darlene Adams, public relations chair for the club.
The group is hopeful local vendors will sign up, but will accept applications from regional vendors if need be, Adams said. Artists or designers in any medium are welcome, whether their craft is woodworking or jewelry making, Adams said. Vendors will pay $25 for a booth to sell their work, Adams said, and the club is asking for a donation of 20 percent of the vendor’s sales.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the club’s youth art program, Adams said. The art program donates art supplies to local classrooms and encourages teachers to recruit students to create pieces for art competitions, of which the club judges and provides ribbons, Adams said.
“We believe art is a great expression for children,” Adams said.
The club is also seeking local furniture stores interested in displaying their work in a design booth, Adams said.
The deadline for vendors to sign up for one of the 27 vendor booths is Sept. 15 and the marketplace will take place Sept. 28. Anyone interested in selling their art or design work can call Nancy Bounds at 601-215-4496 or email picayunecwc@yahoo.com.
