Investigators with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department arrested several suspects for drug related offenses during routine patrols and while providing assistance to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
On May 7, narcotics investigators went to the home of 29-year-old Cody Kirkland, located at 126 Carey Kirkland Rd., to serve a warrant concerning marijuana violations. As the investigators searched the home, they found several pieces of evidence that Kirkland was planning to grow marijuana in a barn on the property. The investigators also found an amount of marijuana, digital scales, plastic bags and other drug related paraphernalia, Allison said.
Kirkland was arrested at that time for cultivating marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, Allison said.
Another case that took place on May 15, led to the arrest of 57-year-old Johnny Davis at his home at 115 Woodmont Dr., when a home inspection by narcotics detectives and officers with the Mississippi Department of Corrections found two firearms. Allison said the discovery in his home led to his arrest for two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and probation violation.
On May 20, investigators on patrol saw a man riding a bicycle in the middle of the road without a headlight after dark. When the investigators attempted to conduct a stop, the rider of the bicycle could be seen reaching into his pocket and throwing something to the ground before coming to a stop.
The item was retrieved and the rider, later identified as 35-year-old John St. Amand of 8 King Rd., was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, Allison said.
The next day, the investigators attempted to locate 29-year-old Jeremy Tate, of 985 Highway 11, Poplarville because he was wanted by the MDOC. Allison said that the department also received several complaints from the community that alleged drug activity was taking place at a home where he was staying, the home of 29-year-old Shelly Reid, of 38 Robert Reid Rd., Poplarville. Allison said the investigators found Tate asleep in the home, along with some syringes, methamphetamine and suboxone. Tate was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of suboxone and for the warrant with MDOC. Reid was arrested for possession of paraphernalia, Allison said.
