Any potential hazards from a diesel spill that occurred Monday on A Street in Picayune have been contained and removed, but the cleanup process may take several days before it is complete, said Deputy Fire Chief Barry Lee.
The spill occurred when Avon Engineered Fabrications, a company that according to their website produces industrial coated fabric goods, was testing a plastic tank Monday, when the tank had a failure and some of the diesel got outside of the containment area, Lee said.
The spill and its hazards were contained by Monday night, Lee said. Currently the cleanup crew is digging up and hauling away dirt that was affected by the spill, Lee said.
A3, a private company that does environmental cleanups is working on the cleanup and mitigation, Lee said. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality oversaw the cleanup of the diesel, Lee said.
