Funeral services will be held at New Hebron Baptist Church, 111 Byrd Street, Carriere, MS August 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. for Jane “Tuttie” Tatum, 64, who passed away August 6, 2018. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be in the Carriere Community Cemetery. The Reverend K. Martin Thomas will officiate at the service.
Mrs. Tatum, a native of Carriere, MS worked for the Pearl River Justice Court as a Justice Court Clerk and previous to Justice Court at Pearl River Central Elementary as a teacher’s assistant.
She was a member of New Hebron Baptist Church. While at New Hebron she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Education Director, Vacation Bible School Programs Director, Choir Member and Treasurer, Announcement Clerk, Kitchen Worker, Mission Member, and a Deaconess until her death. She graduated from Pearl River Central High School in 1972 and attended Pearl River Community College for one year.
“Tutti” was a prolific reader and tv/movie connoisseur with her favorite books being romance novels and her favorite tv shows being Young and the Restless, General Hospital, and Little Women (all cities).
Baking was her favorite past time with German Chocolate and Pound Cakes being her specialty.
She was proceeded in death by her father and mother, James and Gladys Tillman Nixon; her brothers, George Steven Nixon and Dwayne James Nixon; her sister, Alfreta Nixon.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, the love of her life, Deacon Larry Tatum of Carriere, MS; her children, Yanna Jana of Arlington, VA and Coty Dupree of Carriere, MS; three sisters, Julie Ellis, Coranell (Jerry) Frazier, and Alfreda (Roderick) DeFlanders all of Carriere, MS; three brothers, Larry Nixon, Rodger (LaJuanna) Nixon both of Kansas City, Missouri and Perry (Charlotte) Nixon of Carriere, MS; In-Laws; Dr. Michael (Brenda) Tatum, Carolyn (Woodrow) Taylor, Robert (Johnnie Mae) Tatum, Angeline (Bobby) Lee and Stanley (Mary) Tatum; three Godchildren: Shaun Ellis, Antoine LeBlanc, and Jurnee Frazier; six aunts, four uncles, along with many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In lieu of donating flowers, Mrs. Tatum wanted donation to made to New Hebron Baptist Church Senior Women Mission to continue the good work of Jesus Christ.
