The Youth Uniting from Neighborhood Empowerment (YUNEity), is hosting its third annual back to school extravaganza on August 4.
The event is set to take place at J.P. Johnson Park on Rosa Street from 10 a.m., until 3 p.m., that day, YUNEity President Jasmine Ducre said.
The a youth organization mentors children attending junior high through high school to make their transition to college easier, Ducre said.
She said the event gives young people a chance to indulge in a fun-filled day featuring games before they return to school.
The event is organized in conjunction with Finally As 1(FA1), a development group in Picayune that supports the youth and elderly in the community. FA1 actively organizes monthly trash clean up efforts in surrounding communities and reaches out to communities in need, Ducre said.
At the event, attendees will find water slides, face painting, volleyball and football to name a few, Ducre said.
Participants will be eligible to win a variety of prizes including gift cards, backpacks and school supplies.
The aim to provide these supplies is to help ease the financial burden off the parents, she said. The event is free to attend.
