A fundraiser is being held at Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial Library that features quilts and a basket packed with quilting and sewing supplies. The effort will raise money to renovate the facility’s circulation desk to make it handicap accessible.
Cathleen Younes, is heading up the fundraiser and said tickets for the basket and quilts can be purchased in the library for $1 per ticket or $5 for six tickets.
The drawing will take place at the “Quilting in South Mississippi,” program set for September 9 in Holland Hall at the library.
Friends of the Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial Library will present the quilting program, Younes said.
Younes said the library hosts a variety of programs each month that are of interest to the community as a way to bring more people to the library.
She said most of the fundraisers held by Friends of the Library are based around the theme of upcoming programs.
During the program, a representative from the Mississippi Humanities Council will speak about the historic journey of African American quilters, Younes said.
Picayune Piecemakers Quilt Guild will be displaying a Mississippi-themed quilt that will also be raffled off, Younes said.
Participants of the quilting program will be eligible to win door prizes that include free tickets to the Picayune Piecemakers show to be held on Sept. 29-30 and the Pine Belt Quilter show to be held on Oct 5-6.
Younes said the library organizes fundraisers to upgrade the library. Their next project will be to remodel the library’s bathrooms.
