A grey Ford F-250 pick-up truck traveling the wrong way on Interstate 59 caused a collision with a patrol unit before being apprehended by authorities late Saturday night.
At approximately 9:26 p.m. on July 6, the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department received reports of the truck entering I-59 at North Poplarville Exit 29 and heading north in the southbound lanes. Deputies quickly responded and traveled north on the northbound side of the interstate.
Upon spotting the suspect vehicle, deputies activated their flashing blue lights and siren, attempting to intercept the truck and divert oncoming traffic. Despite their efforts, the suspect vehicle collided with a Pearl River County Sheriff patrol unit and continued into Lamar County.
The Lamar County Sheriff’s Department eventually stopped the vehicle. The two deputies in the damaged patrol unit were evaluated for minor injuries and later cleared.
The driver of the truck was charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor traffic-related offenses, including Driving Under the Influence.
