April Holifield Honored at 43rd Quilt Show & Competition

April Holifield of Picayune, Mississippi, received a third-place award in the pictorial category for her quilt “Halls Top Jeep’n” at the 43rd Quilt Show & Competition. The Smoky Mountain Quilters of Tennessee (SMQ) hosted the event on June 21-22 at the Knoxville Expo Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The quilt show featured over 200 quilts and awarded approximately $6,000 in prizes.
The Smoky Mountain Quilters of Tennessee meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church at the intersection of Papermill Drive and Kingston Pike in Knoxville. Meeting dates and locations may vary so attendees can check the SMQ website for updates.
SMQ aims to advance the knowledge and appreciation of quiltmaking craftsmanship, artistic expression, and its historical significance. The guild also supports charitable projects to assist those in need and promotes friendship through shared activities. With approximately 100 members, SMQ includes quilters ranging from novice to master in various styles, including traditional and art quilts, modern designs, miniatures, bed-sized quilts, and hand- or machine-stitched works.
