Robert Clegg Scogin, age 80, passed to his heavenly home on February 15, 2024, after a battle with
Alzheimer’s. He was a Vietnam War Era Veteran. He attended Picayune Memorial High School, PRCC,
and Mississippi State. Clegg was an entrepreneur with businesses in California and New Mexico where
he spent most of his adult life. Although his family called him Clegg, he introduced himself as Bob since
the name he inherited from his grandfather required too much explaining. Clegg’s Picayune classmates
will remember him driving around in his Chevy convertible with his brothers, Willis (Pete) Scogin and
James (Jim) Scogin; or working at Jarvis’ service station across from the post office.
Surviving Clegg are his daughters Stacey Ortega and Haven Dougherty; son-in-law Dan Dougherty; and
grandchildren Elexus, Maya, and Daniel. A recent addition is great granddaughter Chloe. Clegg is
preceded in death by his mother, Ivy Scogin (Miller); father, Willis Taylor Scogin; and brother, Michael
Scogin. The internment is at Mountain View Cemetery in Edgewood, New Mexico. Clegg was never
afraid to try new things. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would get a book and figure it out.
He could build or fix anything. Clegg maintained an incredible wit throughout his life and brought
laughter to many. A donation to the Alzheimer’s Association is the best tribute.
