Samuel Dale McCarty, age 80 of Picayune, went home to be with the Lord on December 29th,
2023 after bravely battling pancreatic cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Sarah McCarty. Left to cherish his
memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Linda McCarty, his two daughters, Greta (Jeremiah)
Singletary and Wendy (Andrew) Bracey, and his three grandchildren, Grayson Singletary,
Caroline Bracey, and Everett Bracey, and one brother, Howard (Gloria) McCarty of Meridian.
Dale graduated from Picayune Memorial High School. He received a degree in drafting from
PRCC and worked as a draftsman for Boeing. He then attended Mississippi State University
where he earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to work for US
Geological Survey in New Orleans and Naval Oceanographic and NASA at Stennis Space
Center.
Dale had a brilliant and creative mind. He derived much joy from designing and building his
home and beautifying his property, including a man-made lake and waterwheel.
Dale loved and cherished his family tremendously. He especially enjoyed spending time with
his grandchildren, Grayson, Caroline, and Rhett, riding four-wheelers, camping, swimming, and
swinging off a trapeze into his lake. Dale also loved to ride motorcycles. In his younger years,
he often participated in motorcycle races and won many awards. In his later years, his favorite
activity was riding his motorcycle with his wife, Linda, through the mountains.
Foremost, Dale loved the Lord. He served his church as an ordained deacon, sang in the choir
from the age of 17, and enjoyed fellowship with his Sunday School class and church community.
Rev. Dan Young will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held on January 6th, 2024 from 9-11 AM at Roseland Park Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held following visitation at 11 AM. Burial will be in New Palestine Cemetery under the
arrangements of McDonald Funeral Home.
