Richard McCrury departed from this world on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his home on 1300 Walnut Bluff Rd. Bogalusa, LA. He was 79 years old. Richard McCrury’s life was a testament to the values of faith, family, and community service. Born to the late  Robert McCrury and Willie Mae McCrury in Bogalusa, LA, on July 11, 1944. Richard’s journey was one marked by dedication to his principles and love for those around him. A proud graduate of Central Memorial High School, Class of 1962. Richard’s commitment to service led him to join the United States Army and Army Reserves, where he served from 1962 to 1985. Following his military service, he became a beloved figure in the community, co-founding the Moreno Valley, CA All American Football League and coaching the Moreno Valley 49ers. As a coach, he inspired, motivated, and showered his players with love.

Richard’s professional journey spanned over three decades at Verizon Electric, where he worked tirelessly in public service until his well-deserved retirement. A man of many talents and interests, Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was tending to his garden, enjoying time with family, entertaining friends, watching football or westerns, he did it all with an infectious smile. His sense of humor, leadership, and unwavering character set him apart from others. Richard was a devoted family man and mentor. The void left by his passing will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Richard McCrury is survived by his wife, Donna McCrury; daughter, Erica McCrury; sons, Carlous Carter, Derrick Carter, and Russell Carter; one son-in-law, Eric Avery;  stepchildren, Raemisha James, Arthur Chatman; grandchildren, Sade’ Cooper, Phillip Cannon, Jaylen Cooper, Justin Avery, Zachary Richard Avery, Jada McNeil, Storm Cannon, Kenneth McNeil, Aubrey Cannon and Brave Cannon; his sister, Barbara McCrury Harrison; his brother, Gerald McCrury;  In addition he also leaves behind many cherished family members, church members, and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Mr. Bob) McCrury and Willie Mae McCrury; a sister, Clothia Parker and a brother, Alfred McCrury; a daughter, Letrah-McCrury Avery

In celebrating Richard McCrury’s life, let us remember the joy he brought to others, how cool and smooth he was, the lessons he imparted, and the enduring legacy of love he leaves behind. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 9:00AM – 11:00AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00AM at Thirkield United Methodist Church. Interment will be held at the Southeast Veteran Cemetery in Slidell, LA. Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
