Annual Christmas parade looking for floats

The Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting registrations for Poplarville Christmas Parade floats.
The annual parade, which has been held for more than 30 years, will be held Friday Dec. 6 at 5 p.m., said parade chairman Mark Bridgers.
Typically the parade includes 40 to 50 floats, said Bridgers, along with walking and marching groups. Santa Claus will ride through the parade on a Poplarville Fire Department truck. The Pearl River Community College band and the Poplarville High School band will both perform in the parade.
The parade exists for two reasons, Bridgers said: to promote local businesses and to give families a safe and fun activity in town.
“I do it because I enjoy this season, and I enjoy benefitting the Chamber, but I mainly enjoy allowing families and children to have a fun activity downtown for Christmas,” he said.
The parade will stage up at Poplarville High School and end on Highway 11 near Pearl River Community College.
The parade will follow the traditional route, beginning at Poplarville High School and march down Main Street before taking a left on Larkin Smith Drive and heading to the intersection of Highway 11, Bridgers said.
Parade entries are $20 per vehicle or $15 for chamber members. Motorcycles and horses are $3 each.
The cost of registration increases to $30 on Nov. 28. Any funds raised from the parade benefit the Chamber of Commerce, Bridgers said.
Registration forms can be picked up at and should be returned to the Radio Shack Poplarville Hardware, located at 431 S. Main St. in Poplarville. Forms can also be picked up at any area bank.
