Georgene (Genie) Sullivan

Georgene (Genie) Veronica Hammer Sullivan, 71, died at home in Picayune on Saturday, July 6, 2019, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Sullivan was born June 17, 1948, in Sarasota, FL, to the late Air Force Capt. George F. Hammer and Vera Deane Hammer. Mrs. Sullivan’s father died when the airplane he was flying disappeared off the coast of Peru, South America, in late 1947. Her mother then returned from the Panama Canal Zone, Panama, to Sarasota, where Mrs. Sullivan grew up. She attended St. Martha’s Catholic Church and graduated from Riverview High School.
Mrs. Sullivan received her bachelor’s degree from St. Mary of the Woods College in Terra Haute, IN, and her master’s degree in education from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS.
Mrs. Sullivan was a school teacher, teaching in Catholic schools in Jackson, MS, and in the St. Tammany Parish, LA, public schools from which she retired in 2007.
Mrs. Sullivan was cremated at Pinehaven Funeral Home, In Hattiesburg, MS, and was buried in the Natchez (MS) National Cemetery on Friday, July 12. A memorial service was held for her at the Senior Center of South Pearl River County, MS, on Saturday, July 13, 2019. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the Senior Center of South Pearl River County, 45 El Patch Pkwy., Picayune, MS 39466, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her husband Willoughby (Will) A. Sullivan, III, of Picayune; a daughter, Kathryn Tima (Brad Duplantis) Sullivan, of Richmond, VA; a son, Will Patrick (Maria Morales) Sullivan and two grandchildren, Jacob Patrick Sullivan, 3, and Eliza Georgene Sullivan, 3 months, all of Miami, FL; and a sister, Jacqueline (Tom) Kennedy, of Mason Neck, VA.
