Picayune Memorial High School’s band will hold a car show on Saturday to raise funds for the band’s meals while they participate in competitions and so they can have clean uniforms.
Cheryl Espino, a member of the school’s band booster club, said the car show will be held on April 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot next to the school’s football stadium.
Anyone can enter their vehicle of choice, including an antique, low rider, Jeep, motorcycle or custom vehicle for $15 for a car, and $10 a motorcycle.
Registration will be held the day of the event. Concessions will also be offered, which include hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage dogs, chicken, French fries, kettle corn, fried Oreos and fried candy bars. All proceeds from the show and concession sales will cover the cost of dry cleaning the band member’s uniforms and pay for meals for the students while they travel to compete in the state competition, Espino said.
First, second and third place trophies will be presented in the categories of best in show for cars and motorcycles. An award will also be issued for the fan favorite, Espino said.
Picayune Memorial High School teacher Leo Raverty made the trophies for the car category winners from old car parts and Cory Dorn made trophies for motorcycle category winners from old motorcycle parts. The winner of the fan favorite title will receive a collection of car care supplies. Awards and trophies will be issued at 3 p.m.
