Highland Community Hospital staff welcomed Pearl River County’s newest resident the morning of Jan. 1.

At 9:22 that morning, Sharon Abadie, gave birth to her second child, Ashiya Reign Abadie.

She weighed five pounds and eight ounces, and was welcomed by her older brother, 5-year-old Braylan Robinson. She was the first child born in 2019 within Pearl River County.

“We’re just blessed to have her and welcome her to the family,” Sharon Abadie said as she held her newborn daughter.

Each year, staff at Highland Community Hospital present the parents of the first baby of the New Year with a gift basket filled with items the family will use as they care for their newborn.
