Local school districts at or above state average for accountability

Schools within Pearl River County were at or above the statewide average for accountability during the 2017-2018 school year, according to data provided by the Mississippi Department of Education.
Grades are assigned to each district based on “criteria regarding student achievement, individual student growth, graduation rate and participation rate,” the MDE website states.
Statewide, the Mississippi average for school districts was a C grade, with 43.2 percent being proficient in math, and 39.8 being proficient in English.
Locally the Poplarville School District and Pearl River County School District both received an accountability grade of B, while the Picayune School District received an accountability grade of C.
District-wide, 38 percent of the students in the Poplarville Separate School District showed a proficiency in math and 39.5 were proficient in English.
Within the Poplarville Separate School District, 46.6 percent of students displayed proficiency in math, and 45.4 were proficient in English.
Poplarville Lower Elementary received a grade of B, with 43.2 percent of students being proficient in math, and 48.6 being proficient in English. Poplarville Upper Elementary also received a B, with 35.9 percent of students being proficient in math, and 44.1 percent being proficient in English.
Middle School of Poplarville received a grade of B, and reported that 51.1. percent of students were proficient in math, and 41.7 were proficient in English.
Poplarville Jr. Sr. High School received a grade of A, with 65.4 percent of students being proficient in math, and 59.4 percent of students being proficient in English.
Pearl River County School District students showed a proficiency in math of 47.8 percent, and an English proficiency of 47.8 percent.
Pearl River Central Lower Elementary received a grade of B, with 49.3 percent of students displaying proficiency in math and 48.4 percent of students being proficient in English. Pearl River Central Upper Elementary received a grade of B, with 41.8 percent of students showing proficiency in math, and 45.3 percent being proficient in English.
Pearl River Central Junior High received a grade of B, with 49.9 percent of students displaying proficiency in math and 44.9 percent being proficient in English.
Pearl River Central High School received a grade of B, and 59.7 percent of students within the campus displayed a proficiency in math, and 63 percent were proficient in English.
Of the students within the Picayune School District, 38 percent displayed proficiency in math, and 39.5 percent showed proficiency in English.
Within the individual campuses of the Picayune School District, Early Head Start in Nicholson and on Rosa Street both received a grade of B. Nicholson Elementary also received a grade of B, reporting a 32.9 percent proficiency in math and 36.2 percent proficiency in English.
Roseland Park Elementary reported a grade of C, with 25.9 percent of students having proficiency in math, and 39.2 showing proficiency in English.
South Side Upper Elementary received a grade of B, with 42 percent of students showing proficiency in math and 46.3 percent of students showing proficiency in English.
South Side Lower Elementary received a grade of A, with 62.7 percent of students being proficient in math and 53.7 being proficient in English.
West Side Elementary received a grade of C, with 29.9 percent of the students displaying proficiency in math and 43.2 percent being proficient in English.
The Junior High received a grade of C, reporting a student math proficiency of 45.9 percent and 27.6 percent proficiency in English.
Picayune Memorial High School received a grade of B, with 46.7 percent of students displaying proficiency in math and 57.2 percent showing proficiency in English.
