The Picayune Police Department recently arrested a couple from Little Rock for multiple offenses including shoplifting and possession of narcotics.
Assistant Chief of Police Jeremy Magri, said the couple was arrested on June 20 at about 12:40 p.m. after officers were dispatched to a local business because loss prevention personnel reported a suspected shoplifting. When officers arrived, they met with a loss prevention officer who pointed out two suspects, a woman and a man standing next to a gold BMW, in the parking lot. The woman was later identified as Ivie Gill, 27, 1717 Kavanaugh Boulevard, Little Rock, Ark., and the man was later identified as Dustin Thompson, 36, 1717 Kavanaugh Boulevard, Little Rock, Ark., Magri said.
Officers approached the suspects and asked for their identification. Gill told the officers that their ID was in a wallet, which officers found in the front passenger door. While officers spoke with the two, they learned there was a syringe in the wallet, Magri said.
While searching the wallet, officers found two syringes and a cellophane wrapper with rolled tissue paper containing four pieces of aluminum foil full of a brown powder they believed to be heroin, Magri said.
Magri said while the officers were speaking with Thompson, they learned through investigative techniques that the narcotic was allegedly purchased in New Orleans.
As officers questioned the suspects, the loss prevention officer provided them with a photo and a receipt of the items that Gill had allegedly shoplifted. These items included sandals, a chef set, a knife set, dessert bars and other miscellaneous items totaling $111, Magri said.
Magri said at this point Gill was arrested for shoplifting, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. Thompson was arrested for possession of paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.
