Catherine Hagardorn Brooks was a native of New Orleans. She worked at John C. Stennis Space Center for fifteen years before retiring. She lived life to the fullest extent and was well known for her generosity and her amazing spirit.
Catherine leaves behind her beloved husband of 43 years, William (John) L. Brooks, son Ernie Van Buren, and brother Alton Hagardorn, Jr., along with numerous loving family members and a host of friends who adored her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton Hagardorn Sr., and Georgana Groetsch.
Catherine’s passion was running Mississippi Great Pyrenees Rescue and she had a part in rescuing and rehoming hundreds of dogs. Her wisdom, support, and encouragement helped dog owners nationwide, and her network of friends and admirers learned much from her gentle suggestions and strong direction.
Cathy was a natural with dogs, and they all loved and respected her. She was calm and clear and always had the upper hand. Her laughter was legendary, and her home was a paradise for dogs and the humans who loved them.
Thank you, Catherine, for sharing your life with us. We love you and will miss you dearly, but we are comforted by knowing that you were met by a wagging crowd of the many dogs who owed their lives to you. Godspeed, and safe journeys.
A celebration of Catherine’s life will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the West Lawn Baptist Church, 2703 Jackson Landing Road, Picayune, MS 39426. Visitation is at 1:00 pm with a memorial service at 2:00 pm. All are welcome to attend.
