Norman “Butch” Mitchell

Norman “Butch” Mitchell age 85, of Maryville, Tennessee, formerly of Picayune, Mississippi,, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 16, 2018.

Norman served his country honorably in the Navy on the USS O’Brien ship during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the US Post Office as a rural letter carrier, and became a licensed realtor for the state of Mississippi,.

Norman was well known as a person of honesty and integrity.

He loved the Lord and was happy working in the church. He served as an ordained Deacon for 18 years in a former church. Norman was a community outreach leader, as he served on the board of Picayune Housing Authority, helping the elderly. He was a member of the American Legion and the Gideons.

As a sports fan, he enjoyed the UT ball games. He will long be remembered for his gift of story telling, quick wit, and sense of humor. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.

He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maryville, and the Encourages Sunday School Class.

Norman was receded in death by: parents, Alfred A. Mitchell, Sr. & Alberta Jarrell Mitchell; sisters, Virginia Stockstill and Julia Holloway; brother, Alfred A. Mitchell, Jr.

Left to cherish his memory: wife, Jewel Wheat Mitchell; daughter, Debbie Mitchell Carter (Michael); daughter, Sharon Mitchell; six Grandchildren; sister, Joyce Goetzmann.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Family and friends will assemble for grave side service and interment with military honors at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Grandview Cemetery with Dr. William Booth officiating.
