A Carriere man allegedly killed himself in a cemetery close to where his family members are buried.
Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Marc Ogden said deputies were sent to a cemetery located on Smith Street in Carriere on May 14 just after 7 a.m.
The call was in response to a deceased person being found on a bench with an apparent gunshot wound.
Deputies arrived to find the man and conducted a death investigation, which included contacting the Pearl River County Corner’s office.
Coroner Derek Turnage said the investigation identified the man as 67-year-old George H. Williamson of Carriere. Turnage said Williamson’s cause of death has been listed as suicide due to a gunshot wound to the head.
Ogden said the bench where the deceased was found was near the graves of his own family members.
