Two firefighters with the Picayune Fire Department were recently promoted. They began serving in those new roles this week.
Jason Hunt was promoted to lieutenant and will now serve at fire station three, located on Palestine Road.
Hunt was hired to the Picayune Fire Department in September 2006. Prior to his promotion he was assigned to the department’s central station on Loftin Road.
Ottis Mitchell was promoted to captain.
Mitchell became employed with the department in October 2001 and served as lieutenant prior to his promotion.
He was previously stationed at fire station three but will now work out of fire station one on Adcox Road.
“I’m very excited and looking forward to doing some new and different things around here,” Mitchell said. “I’m excited and looking forward to what lies ahead for me.”
Brown said he would like to congratulate Hunt and Mitchell on their promotions. He said both firefighters worked very hard to receive the positions and will continue to demonstrate their leadership qualities in their new roles.
“Picayune Fire Department isn’t very big and it’s always encouraging to be able to move some of our very capable officers up the order,” Picayune Fire Chief Keith Brown said.
Picayune City Manager Jim Luke said he would like to congratulate Hunt and Mitchell on their promotions and thanked them for their years of service to the city.
