On Thursday, Poplarville High School’s culinary class will partner with Poplarville Women’s Club to provide meals to the community as part of a fundraiser.
Meals will be sold for $10 a plate at the Career Development Center on the high school campus from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Poplarville Women’s Club member and event organizer Shirley Wiltshire said proceeds from the fundraiser will help culinary students participate in a cooking competition and be used to support the club’s community service projects.
She said that in the past, the club raised funds to purchase bicycles for the disabled and install swings for disabled children at City Park.
Funds are also being raised to provide scholarships to six local high school seniors, she said.
Meals will be cooked by the students and members of the club. The plates will include cheesy chicken rice, green beans with cashews, salad and cheesecake with a strawberry topping.
“We’ve been doing this for over 10 years now,” Wiltshire said. “It’s the fifth year that we are coordinating with the culinary arts class giving them a learning opportunity to cook for a large group.”
Individuals interested in purchasing a meal but cannot make it to the center can have their order delivered, she said.
Wiltshire said the event gives members of the club an opportunity to work with students and raise money for community projects.
