Ella Mae Daniels

Funeral Services will be held Saturday March 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at New Welcome Missionary Baptist Church for Mrs. Ella Mae Daniels age 99 of Poplarville, Mississippi who died Friday March 23, 2018 at her home.
Ella Mae Chambers was born October 10, 1918 in Ethel, Louisiana, a small town close to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Allen and Elsie Chambers.
She married William Daniels on July 16, 1933. To this union they were blessed with thirteen children.
Sister Ella Mae Daniels united with Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age. Sister Daniels was also a member of Hart’s Chapel Baptist Church for 15 years and she was a member of New Welcome Baptist Church for over 50 years where she served as an usher, a member of Mission #1 and served as Mistress of Order for the Fourth Sunday Mission Programs.
As you can imagine, Sister Daniels had numerous rigorous jobs in her life time. She worked in Wisconsin picking cherries, mashed bay tromped feed for the Silo, and picked tung oil nuts…but one of her greatest accomplishments was when she integrated Movie Star and was the first African American to operate a machine!
She helped many people gain employment there, and she would get mad if they were not hired. She later retired from Movie Star after serving many years.
On March 23, 2018, Sister Ella completed her earthly journey and went to rest. She was proceeded in death by her parents Allen and Elsie Chambers; husband William Daniels Sr.; daughter and son in law Willie Bell Harry (Ben); son and daughter in law Henry Lee (Elizabeth); son in law Clarence John; three grandchildren; Charles Ray Brackett, William Charles Harry and Jonathan Daniels; one great grandchild Walter Harry; siblings Lee Chambers, Leola Mimms and Eli Chambers.
Sister Ella Mae Daniels, known as “Big Momma,” “Momma Ella Mae,” “Mae Mae” leaves to cherish her legacy of Christian and family values are her children Mattie Brackett, Dorothy John, Roger Lee (June), Katherine Holt (Edward), William Jr., Mary K. Armstrong (Lee), Gwendolyn all of Poplarville, Mississippi; Rev. Tommy (Sue) of D’Iberville Mississippi, Jerry (Louisa), Johnny (Vernell), of Jackson, Mississippi and Michael (Glenda) of Brandon, Mississippi; 37 grandchildren, 125+ great, great-great, great-great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday March 31, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at New Welcome Missionary Baptist Church, 12 Whitesand Road, Poplarville, Mississippi.
Burial will be in Dave Monday Cemetery under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home.
