Representatives with the Pearl River County SPCA are seeking donations that will be part of a garage sale on March 24 at the shelter from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Cindy McDonald, volunteer coordinator at the shelter, said donations are currently being sought in the form of clothes, furniture, household items as well as any other items community members would be willing to provide.
McDonald said last year the shelter raised about $1,100 through the sale. The garage sale has now become an annual event each March.
PRC SPCA Public Relations representative Maria Diamond said the proceeds will be used to cover general operating expenses at the shelter, pay veterinarian bills, purchase medicine, stock up on cleaning supplies and cover any other necessary expense.
“We always need help and need community support as we are trying to increase the number of adoptions and keep our animals healthy,” Diamond said.
McDonald said the shelter takes in about 3,500 animals annually.
Donations can be brought to the shelter until the morning of the sale.
Anyone interested in donating can call the shelter at 601-798-8000. Staff would like to know the size of the item to be donated so they can set aside space for its storage and display during the event.
