Friday at about 3 p.m., Poplarville Police Department officers responded to a citizen report of reckless driving on Highway 11 and Highway 26.
Poplarville Police Chief Butch Raby said his officers were provided with a vehicle description and tag number, allowing the officer to find the vehicle traveling west on Highway 26 before turning onto Highway 53 South where the officer conducted a traffic stop.
While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed he was nervous and subsequently asked him to step out of the vehicle, Raby said.
Once the driver stepped out of the vehicle, identified as Richard D. Lowe, 36, of 602 Avenue B, Bogalusa, La., the officer noticed an empty pill bottle next to the driver’s seat, Raby said.
The officer then received consent to search the vehicle from Lowe where the officer recovered the bottle to find it contained a straw and razor blades.
Continued search of the vehicle located a silver container under the driver’s seat with a white crystal believed to be crystal meth inside.
Lowe was then arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance and was transported to the Pearl River County jail, Raby said.
