Pearl River County Board of Supervisors recently appointed five members to a Board that will serve on the county’s economic development council.
The economic development council will be dedicated to attract more businesses to Pearl River County.
The Board of Supervisors each appointed a member to the Board they feel would help the county’s economy progress.
County Administrator Adrian Lumpkin said $150,000 was budgeted by the Board of Supervisors to start the organization. The Board is currently working with attorneys in Jackson to fill out the required paperwork before they can proceed further.
District 1 Supervisor Donald Hart appointed Harold Littles, District 2 Supervisor Malcolm Perry appointed Dr. Scott Alsobrooks, District 3 Supervisor Hudson Holliday appointed Joey McClinton, District 4 Supervisor Farron Moeller appointed Kevin Hedgepeth and District 5 Supervisor Sandy Kane Smith appointed Darren Champagne to the Economic Board.
Smith said that by appointing the Board, efforts can begin to move forward.
“We have everything to offer but no one pushing us,” Smith said.
Lumpkin said once the legal paperwork is established, Supervisors will hire a director and seek office space.
Holliday said Pearl River County has a lot of opportunities and that he wanted someone who would focus all their efforts in taking advantage of those opportunities.
Lumpkin said he wants to keep this organization going for the next 5-10 years until the results pay off.
“Economic development is a long-term process and not an overnight quick fix, we’ve got to stay in this for a long time,” Lumpkin said.
