The Senior Center of South Pearl River County is organizing an educational fair where senior citizens can receive free health screenings and where those needing assistance in taking care of a loved one at their home or in a facility can receive information.
The fair is sponsored by Solace Hospice of Poplarville and will take place at the Senior Center on Jan. 9, at 10 a.m.
David Skyes, executive director at the Senior Center, said the fair will provide free blood pressure, blood sugar and health screenings for senior citizens and educate caregivers on how to ensure the comfort and care of those they love.
Healthcare professionals and nurses from Solace Hospice will be present at the fair to assist in screenings and provide necessary healthcare tips.
According to a release by Solace Hospice, other topics to be discussed include veteran benefits, long term personal care, waiver programs, meals on wheels, sitter service, nursing home care, assisted living and patient personal care.
Caregivers will be taught about how to check a pulse, respiration, turning and changing a patient, how to feed patients, signs to watch for when patients are unwell and how to maintain personal hygiene, the release states.
Skyes said the screenings can help caregivers identify patients at risk.
Refreshments will be served at the event.
